Larry Granell WR9B of Moline, IL died Friday, May 29, 2009 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg, as a result of a motorcycle accident. Larry was born July 11, 1946 in Moline, the son of Lester and Julia (Prosen) Granell. He graduated from UTHS class of 1964. Upon graduation, he went to work at John Deere before joining the Air Force. He married Judy King on February 24, 1973 in Seaton, IL. Larry retired in 2002 as a welder after 38 years with John Deere Harvester. Larry had many passions in his life which included computers, Ham Radio operator WR9B, astronomy, photography, travel and motorcycling. He was a member of the ST Owners Group and was his family’s personal grill master. Survivors include his wife Judy, children; Tonica (Scott) Granell-Roman, Rock Island, Dawn Granell, East Moline and Michael Granell, Moline, grandchildren; Joseph, Nicholas, Joshua, Alyssa, Kiara, Breeanna, Jordan, and one on the way. He is preceded in death by his parents and infant brother and four sisters.
Funeral services for Larry are 10 AM Thursday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, East Moline. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery, where the East Moline American Legion Post 227 will conduct Military Honors. Visitation is 4-7 PM Wednesday at Van Hoe Funeral Home Ltd., East Moline, where a rosary will be recited at 6:30 PM.
